Kimberley, BC

Kimberley is a ski area located in the Canadian Rockies of British Columbia – about a 4 hour drive from Calgary, Alberta. The slopes are not crowded at all, they have a high speed quad, excellent grooming and there are plenty of runs! I especially like the fact that Kimberley hosts a lot of disabled skiing events and are very used to loading Bi-skis, Mono skis..etc. But – The “Easter” Chairlift has some metal brackets/tabs that hang off the chair that may cause some disabled ski equipment to get stuck – please ask the attendant to check your equipment out before getting on. There are two hotels at the base of the Mountain – A Marriott Residence Inn and a more intimate hotel. We stayed at the Marriott and liked it a lot – There is an elevator to all floors including the indoor parking. There are storage lockers for your ski gear right by the exit door, and a storage room for your bi-skis across from the main desk. Everything was very handicap – friendly. The rooms have small kitchens and a fireplace, a breakfast buffet is included, and there is a good restaurant in the hotel too. The town of Kimberley is actually a short drive away and looks like a Bavarian town. There are several German restaurants, a gift shop and bakery there too. The best German food, however, can be found closer to the ski area – The Old Bauerhaus Restaurant. In the town of Cranbrook, about 45 minutes away, you can watch a great WHL Hockey game (The Kottenay Ice).
